In life, we choose who we want to be around, and often align ourselves with people we get along best with. Why then does Peeta join with the Career Tributes in the beginning of the Games? What does he hope to gain? Why do they accept him when they start hunting as a group? Why do groups form in the beginning when they know only one of them will be able to survive?

  7. I think Peeta joins the careers to protect Katniss because he always lead them away from her and let her escape before Cato could hurt her. Also he made the audience believe they were in love so they could change the rules and so they could get more sponsors.

  8. In the story Peeta joins the group with the Careers to protect Katniss. At the time that he was with them, the Careers were under the impression that he was helping them to find Katniss, rather than save her. With him being used as a guide, they let him live in hope to find Katniss. I feel that Peeta hoped to gain trust by the Careers, that way he could lead them away from Katniss, in a direction that he thought would avoid running into her. Something that I felt made them want to use him as an ally also, was his strength. Most of the groups in the arena form to create a sort of protection for themselves. In the end, they usually turn from each other and kill the weakest ones.

    1. I do agree that the careers might have used Peeta foe his strength. I didn't think of that before but he did get an 8 in training. I also agree that he would join the careers so be could lead them away from Katniss. This also might show the Capitol and the audience that he knows a lot about Katniss since he should be in love with her by knowing where she might be so she can lead them the opposite way. I also agree that the careers let him live so they could get to Katniss.

  9. I think Peeta joined the careers in the beginning because he would be able to try and protect Katniss if the careers found her. He could lead them away from her or fight them off for her. He does like her and is trying to persuade the Capitol that Katniss and him area in love so he has to do it and it might get her or him sympathy sponsors.

    1. I felt the same way Kacie! I had the same ideas as to what he was doing, and why he made the choices that he did. I feel like the decisions that he chose, made the story that much more interesting once all the pieces came together.

  10. In the beginning of the games Peeta joins the Careers to protect Katniss and to stay alive. He knows he won't gain their trust but stays anyway. The Careers think that Peeta will help them find Katniss and kill her.

  12. I'd camp out by water, trees, and caves. There I could make easy kills.

  13. He would join there group thing because he was trying to keep them away from katniss. And they would do that because they want to say together even though there know there gonna have to kill each other.

  14. Peeta joins the carreers because he is trying to protect katniss so he doesn't die right away.Peeta hopes to gain trust and loyalty and his life. Carreers let him in because they think he knows we're katniss is so they can make a early kill so they don't have to deal with her. Groups form in the beginning so they can have some protection in the begging and the leader slowly start to pick them off like Cato and when they realize he is just using them then it's to late.!

  15. I think that peeta joined the careers because he knew he did not have a chance at wining so he joined them to stay alive as long as he could and also it would help Katniss win because he would lead them away from Katniss instead of towards her and I think that they accepted him because they thought he would lead them to Katniss so they could kill her because they knew she was there biggest competitor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. I think Peeta joins the Careers' alliance because he wants to make sure Katniss stays safe and because he knows much about her,he would know where she would most likely be but he would lead the Careers to a place far from her, because of how much they trust him. The Careers allow him to be with them because they believe that he would be their best chance in finding Katniss because of how much of a threat she is to them.

  17. I think Peeta joined the careers solely with the purpose to protect katniss. He has shown he cares for katniss later on in the book as well as at that time. By allying himself with the group that has set out to kill katniss, he is aware of their motives and can mislead them. Of course katniss is unaware of this at that time, she believes he tricked her and has set out to kill her. In all the times the group of careers has been remotely close Peeta has done something to buy her time or mislead them. As an example, when the careers attempt to kill her numerous times while she's in a tree , Peeta suggests they wait her out until she has to come down. Reluctantly they set up camp in hopes of their next kill in the morning. This shows how Peeta buys time for katniss to devise a plan to escape. I think katniss really realizes peeta's motives when he saves her life while she's in a hallucination. They accept him in hope of him leading them to katniss. When he fails to do so, they dump him.

  18. I think Peeta allies with the careers for two reasons. He knows if he stays with the careers, unless they kill him, he will stay alive because they will protect him and no one wants to come near the careers. The second reason, is that Peeta wants Katniss to stay safe and he knows that if he allies with the careers he can keep them from getting near her. He hopes to gain trust with the careers so that they will protect him and keep him alive. They except Peeta because they will use him to lead them to Katniss, so that they can kill her. Groups form in the beginning so that they can keep each other alive until the time comes that they have to kill each other. After all, two friends is better than one in my opinion.

  19. I think Peeta's paired up with the careers for a few reasons. One reason is that he wants to keep Katniss safe so he will turn the careers away from Katniss. Also he wants sponsors so by playing this by a lover boy angle he will get sponsors. Since he is such a good liar he could get away with it. Since only one person could win maybe if he had to and it was the end ( this is before the rule change) and Katniss was still hidden he would put an fight the careers, risking his life, to kill them all and let Katniss be victor

  20. I think Peeta joined the Careers so that they wouldn't kill him. He wanted to kill off as much other people as possible, and his real intentions were to help Katniss at the end. After all, he saved her from Cato and the others. I believe people form groups at the beginning so that they can be powerful, and at the end when there's only a few left, they kill each other.

  21. I feel like Petta joined up with the careers so that he can be protected but also he can protect Katniss from them . I feel like this kind of group is formed by having an advantage on the games by being able to have all the supplies the need to survive and science they have
Been training for this all there life . I feel like if the careers group never happened the games would go so much faster because they can't survive with out the resources from the cornucopia . I feel like Katniss would have much more of an advantage because she has been doing this for her entire life she just doesn't realize it .

  22. What what I would do is to flee, if I could. If I was not able to run away, I would have to fight instead.
