OMG! I'm On Reality T.V.
Reality T.V. has become a recent phenomenon in our culture. Today you can turn on the television and see anything from Survivor to the Bachelor to My Sweet 16. Whichever channel you flip to, you are bound to see someone doing something insane for money or acting ridiculous during their 15 minutes of fame. Describe your feelings about Reality T.V. shows. Do you like or dislike them? What types are your favorite and which could you do with out? What types of effects do you believe they have on our society? What would you think about turning on the T.V. and watching The Hunger Games?
Holy Moly Freak Out!
Think about a time you were faced with a difficult challenge. Describe the challenge and how you attempted to overcome its hardships. Were you successful in conquering your challenge ? If yes, what made you successful. If no, what would you do differently next time. How do you think you would handle the situation Katniss and Peeta have been faced with?
You're A Girl And Like To Do What?
Grand Narrative Theory has opened our eyes to gender stereotypes. Explain what gender stereotypes are to you. Share a specific time where you may have used a gender stereotype against a person or someone used one against you. What other gender stereotypes have the characters of The Hunger Games broken?
The Whistle Blows And They're Off...

Past, Present, and Future
In the Hunger Games are the characters living
in the past, future, or do they remain in the present time? What have you
learned about this time period thus far? Do you think Katniss' world is better or
worse off than our world?
BFF
As we get to know people, we are able to
decide if they could be our friend. You have learned a lot about Katniss over
the past few weeks. Tell whether or not you could become best friends with her.
Describe, using specific reasons from the text, why or why not.
Point of View
Hunger Games is written in the first person point of view, through the eyes of Katniss. She tells us her feelings and everything she is experiencing. How would Hunger Games be different if it was told through the eyes of Peeta? Gale? or Prim? Choose one of those characters and tell how the story's plot would change.
Survival
When we face adversity, we often use skills that we are good at to survive. Peeta uses his cake decorating skills to camouflage himself in the arena, helping him to survive a knife wound to the leg, tracker jacker bites, and a raging fever. If you needed to hide, what skills would you use to help yourself stay safe?
In life, we choose who we want to be around, and often align
ourselves with people we get along best with. Why then does Peeta join with the
Career Tributes in the beginning of the Games? What does he hope to gain? Why
do they accept him when they start hunting as a group? Why do groups form in
the beginning when they know only one of them will be able to survive?
